Eastwood: young people leading the fight against climate emergency
SDLP Leader, Colum Eastwood MLA has commended the young people who have mobilised to raise awareness of and inspire action against the climate emergency. The Foyle Westminster candidate said "climate change is no longer a theory but an irrefutable fact. It is clearly the biggest threat facing our planet and the biggest challenge facing mankind. Young people across the world are leading the fight for action and I am proud to be joining them today in Derry's Guildhall Square."
The MLA for Foyle added: "It is fitting that young people are leading the charge, they will be here after we have gone and they have a real opportunity to do something no other generation has done in history; to leave the world in a better condition than they got it in.
"We should be doing everything possible to help them achieve this but sadly some important legislative changes required to strengthen environment protection here in Northern Ireland cannot be made in the absence of an Assembly."
“The time for action is now. The SDLP is prepared to invest in bold initiatives to repair the damage we’ve done to our natural environment. Action on climate change will be a key part of our agenda at Westminster and at home.”
