Catney: Safety of residents affected by Dunmurry fire is priority

At the scene of a fire at Coolmoyne House tower block on Seymour Hill in Dunmurry, SDLP MLA Pat Catney said the priority was to ensure the safety of residents.

 He said:

"The fire that broke out here has caused a lot of alarm. While residents have been safely evacuated, they are frightened and in shock at what they witnessed this evening.

"My priority is to continue to work with the statutory agencies to ensure the safety of all residents tonight.I've been speaking directly with the Northern Ireland Housing Executive on plans to accommodate those who have had to leave their homes due to this incident.

"We do need to understand urgently what happened here tonight to provide reassurance to those affected. I'll continue to work with the Northern Ireland Housing Executive to ascertain further information.

"Being at such a scene really brings home the importance of our emergency services. These men and women are real heroes, tonight they put out these flames and ensured the safety of all residents. They should be commended and respected by all of us for the invaluable service they provide. They are a credit to our community. "
