Catney calls for responsibility as pubs open

SDLP Business Spokesperson Pat Catney MLA has called on operators and patrons to exercise responsibility and strictly follow public health guidelines as wet pubs are allowed to reopen from today.

The Lagan Valley MLA said that there is an onus on pub owners to demonstrate that premises can operate safely.

Pat Catney MLA said:

“There are responsible publicans the length and breadth of Northern Ireland who have been keen to demonstrate that their businesses can operate effectively, safely and within the Covid-19 public health guidelines. I am pleased that they’ll have the opportunity to reopen from today.

“This is a new and very challenging environment for everyone. So I’m also appealing to people who will be in pubs over the next few days to behave responsibly, be patient with venues and staff as they adapt to a new way of working but above all to act in accordance with the Executive’s guidance.

“This is a test for an entire industry. Owners should be under no illusion - where there are breaches of the public health rules, there will be serious consequences. I know the vast majority if operators understand the scale of the challenge they’re facing and will behave in a responsible way that outs the health of customers first.
