McCrossan welcomes internet provision scheme for disadvantaged pupils

SDLP Education Spokesperson, Daniel McCrossan MLA has welcomed that free Wifi and mobile connectivity will be extended to children who would not otherwise have access.

The West Tyrone MLA commented:

“Today, the Education Minister has announced a significant investment into providing internet access for children who would not otherwise have access, becoming available mid next month. This follows on from an earlier scheme to lend digital devices to children who had no access.”

“This is a positive move by Minister Weir, it is to be welcomed and the SDLP have been calling for a scheme like this one for some months now. It is crucial that the scheme is administered at pace, with no unnecessary delays. This is vital to continuity of learning.”

“The impact of COVID-19 on learning and our children is huge, but this impact will be felt most severely by those from disadvantaged backgrounds. The SDLP will continue to fight for support and resources to ensure that no child is left behind.”
