Dobbins: Calls for Support for Schools for Environmental Projects

Local SDLP Environment Spokesperson Cllr Angela Dobbins congratulates Steelstown Primary School on taking the initiative to tackle school litter. The Local Cllr has written to the Education Authority to request that local schools are given support to encourage environmental incentives.

Cllr Dobbins said:

“By taking the initiative to secure litter bins and dog foul bins in the vicinity of their school, the pupils of Steelstown PS are not only attempting to tackle litter within the school grounds but the local area also.

"As current chair of DCSDC Environment Committee I am heartened to see the increase of school children presenting to council their innovatives, eco friendly projects and how environmentally aware they are.

"I have written to the Education Authority to request that they provide support to schools to develop incentives to encourage ‘eco committees/ prefects’ within our city and district schools.

"If all our schools were supported they would have the opportunity to develop a new generation to lead the way forward on eco friendly thinking and a greener cleaner society.”
