Colin was first elected to Down District Council in 2005. Colin served as both Chair and Vice-Chair of Down District Council, indeed, he was the youngest ever chair of the local council.

He was educated at St Patrick’s Primary School, Saul, St Patrick’s Grammar and the East Down Institute. Colin then completed a BSc (Hons) in Community Youth Work at the University of Ulster in Jordanstown.

As part of his degree programme he had to complete work placements in Finaghy Youth Centre, Belfast, Castlereagh Area Youth Office and Utongatti School in Durban, South Africa. All of these experiences helped to form the opinions that he now has – that people achieve more as a community when they trust and accept each other and when they pool their collective capabilities and resources.

Colin was born, and raised in Downpatrick, where he now lives.

Colin was elected to the Assembly to represent South Down in May 2016. He is the SDLP Education Spokesperson
