First elected in 2005 to Ards Borough Council representing the Ards Peninsula Ward. Joe defended his seat in 2011 with a 60% increase in his vote, topping the poll.
During this period he has served on all main committees as well as having chaired both the External Affairs & Planning Committees as well as the Co-ordinating Committee. He is also the current Vice-chairperson of Ards Borough Council's Sports Development Committee and represents the Council as Vice-Chairperson on the Northern Ireland local Government Partnership On Travellers’ Issues (NILGPOTI ).
Joe is also a member of NIGLA, NAC, East Border Region (EBR ) and the Commercial Fisheries Working Group (CFWG). He has a keen interest in the planning system as well as the promotion of economic development through diversification on sustainable projects within rural areas and is always keen to market the Ards Peninsula and Strangford Lough as a major tourism destination.
Joe is married to Sinead and has three children Tatum, Desi and Conal.
He has been in business for 30 years in Portaferry and is a keen GAA supporter having administered for a number of years in various positions at both club and county level.:: Back to People
