Roisin became involved with the SDLP five years ago and has made a significant contribution to the rebuilding of the SDLP in South Antrim. In 2013 she was elected vice-chair of the SDLP central executive and in that role has driven the renewal and rebuilding of the SDLP across Northern Ireland.

In May 2014 Roisin was elected as the SDLP Councillor for Antrim Town and serves on the new Antrim and Newtownabbey Council.
