Malachy Quinn is a 30-year-old from the Washingbay Area outside Coalisland. A party activist since 2007 he has served on many political platforms over the years, including Vice President of St Mary’s College Students’ Union before being elected as an SDLP Councillor for Torrent in 2014.
Over the last three years Malachy has developed a reputation as a hard working public representative. He introduced the Living Wage into Mid Ulster Council which led to a pay rise of 12.5% for the lowest paid council workers. He has been on the ground delivering on issues such as lowering speed limits, road danger signs, tackling anti-social behaviour and improving local services.
A former student of both St Mary’s and Queen’s where he received a Master’s in Irish Politics. Malachy is very active outside of politics. He is a member of St. Vincent de Paul and helps to raise money for different local charities. He is also well known in local theatre circles and is a very proud GAA member.
