Wilson: Modern Slavery Strategy must be future proofed

SDLP Representative Heather Wilson has welcomed the publication of the Modern Slavery Strategy by the Department of Justice. Like everything else here in Northern Ireland, the endemic of modern slavery, whether that be domestic servitude, sexual exploitation or forced criminality, it doesn’t stop whilst Stormont isn’t functioning; therefore, the publication of this document is most welcome and much needed.

WHYTE: Erection of Paratroop Regiment flags are insult to memory of victims from all sides

SDLP North Belfast representative Carl Whyte has condemned the erection of Paratroop Regiment flags at the junction of the Ballysillan and Oldpark Road. The flags were erected sometime on Saturday and he said they insult the memory of all those murdered by the Parachute Regiment, including two Shankill Road men - Ritchie McKinney and Robert Johnston - who were killed in cold blood by the Parachute Regiment in 1972.

Byrne Challenges City Deal Legal Document

SDLP Slieve Gullion Councillor Pete Byrne has sought assurances over the Belfast Regional City Deal Heads of Terms Agreement stating that the UK government should not be given room to water down its commitment to the deal in the future because of wording within the legal document.

Wilson: Community Pharmacies not sufficiently supported by the Department

SDLP North Belfast Representative Heather Wilson has called on the HSBC to properly fund community pharmacies to ensure that practices such as blister pack medication can be provided across all pharmacies in Northern Ireland as opposed to only those who have the time and resource to implement it. Ms Wilson added, “the use of blister pack medicine, whilst time consuming, is a vital tool for many patients with complex medical conditions, helping them alleviate that little bit of stress that comes with having a complex illness.”
