Belfast City Councillors call for animal abuse register

Belfast City Councillors have unanimously agreed to write to the Belfast, Dublin and London governments calling for a central register of animal abusers. SDLP Botanic Councillor Gary McKeown, who proposed the motion, said: "In spite of legislation to punish offenders, there is no central register of those convicted of animal cruelty offences. Having one would help prevent further animals being placed in the care of convicted animal abusers.
