Durkan expresses ‘wholehearted’ support for Nursing strike action ballot

SDLP Health Spokesperson Mark H Durkan has added his support for Royal College of Nurses ballot of members on strike action beginning today. He has criticised the lack of action from prior health ministers and civil servants who have ‘failed to take seriously’ numerous warnings regarding the nurses’ pay crisis and deteriorating working conditions. Earlier this year RCN Director, Pat Cullen declared a crisis in the profession- which she agreed had been exacerbated by pay disparity.

Eastwood: EU reflecting will of people in Northern Ireland

SDLP Leader Colum Eastwood MLA has said European Union leaders are more in tune with the will of people in Northern Ireland than the British Government or the DUP. Reacting to reports that German Chancellor Angela Merkel told Boris Johnson that Northern Ireland should remain in the Customs Union, Mr Eastwood called on others to listen to the voice of people, communities and business who oppose a border across Ireland.
