Patsy at a glance
Patsy has been MLA for Mid Ulster since 2003. Married to Geraldine and living in Ballinderry Bridge, Cookstown. Patsy is an Honours Graduate in Irish Studies – tá céim sa Ghaeilge ag Patsy agus an-dáimh aige leis an chultúr Ghaelach. A keen supporter of Gaelic Games, his late father Johnwas a prominent member of the County Derry Gaelic football team.
Outside Politics Patsy enjoys wildfowling, clay pigeon shooting and writing and still has close links to the local Gaelic sporting community.
A member of the SDLP Executive from 1984-86 Patsy served as General Secretary of the party from 1986-91.
Elected to the NI Forum for Constituency of Mid Ulster in 1996, Patsy served as delegate in the multi-party talks which led to the Good Friday Agreement in 1998.
In this time he also served as a delegate on the Forum for Peace and Reconciliation, chief press officer to John Hume MP MEP and chaired the SDLP association of councillors.
A former chair of the Northern Ireland Assembly’s Environment Committee, Patsy has previously held the position of Chairman of Cookstown District Council in 2002/2003 & 2005/2006.
He is the SDLP Agriculture Spokesperson and he has previously served on a number of boards & public bodies, including; Foras na Gaeilge, Northern Ireland Housing Executive and the NI Housing Council.:: Back to People
